General guidelines
Articles can cover all aspects of the geography, history and natural history of the Falklands and of adjacent regions (e.g. South Georgia, the South Atlantic Ocean, Antarctica, Patagonia) insofar as they are relevant to the Falklands. They should be written for general readership and include a local history dimension if at all possible. The FIJ is the official publishing journal of the Stanley Museum.
Length of articles
We do not wish to be unduly restrictive on length of articles but in the interest of readership, cost and space most are in the range of 5-15 pages (2000-6000 words exc figures and photos). Longer articles, if they deal with a particularly important topic, will be accommodated where possible – or may can be considered for splitting in parts over several issues.
Review
All articles are reviewed by some or all of the Editorial Committee :- Jim McAdam, Rob Philpott, Emma Jane Wells, Kevin Kenny, Alison Barton, Chloe Anderson-Wheatley, Geraldine McAdam, Andrea Barlow, Tasmin Tyrrell, Nikki Buxton. They may require clarification, correction, shortening etc. In most cases their comments will be directed through the Editor, but our aim is to be inclusive and to help authors where we can.
Timescale
The Journal is published annually, the target release date is early September (to allow time for shipping to the Falklands before Christmas).
Articles can be submitted to the Editor any time but to ensure printing in a particular issue, they should be submitted by the end of June. The Journal copy usually goes to the printer (in Northern Ireland) by the middle of August.
Submission Format
Electronic submission is greatly encouraged! Word files are easiest dealt with and if at all possible, photos should not be embedded in the text. Footnotes, References etc should be listed at the end of the article. If electronic copy does not exist, we are happy to work with authors and will accept hard copy (either printed or hand written). Photographs (B&W and colour) are welcomed where they enhance articles.
Layout
Article final layout is done by the editor, but for clarity the following are the layout instructions which are applied to final articles. Authors do not need to follow these at submission stage.

- Title – U.C., bold, 12 point, centered

Proofs
Authors are usually corresponded with throughout editing and are sent a proof copy of their article for checking before printing.
Copies
Authors will receive a free copy of the issue their article appears in. Normally this is restricted to one journal per article. I am happy to supply PDFs of final articles to authors requesting them.
